food review: Coffee Club

We haven’t visited Coffee Club in while and was surprised to find a then-new-now-old menu. No idea how long ago the change was made but I was disappointed to find that they had removed their sun-dried tomato salmon dish for i was looking forward to a healthy light lunch.

To continue with my fishy business, I had the smoked salmon caesar salad. There were the usual lettuces and croutons, sufficient serving of fresh pink salmon slices and musty bottled bacon bits. Nothing too earth-shattering about this salad with dressing on the side.

Mum’s honey mustard chicken ciabatta is a safe and delicious bet for those overwhelmed by the wide variety of the menu. The combination of honey and mustard proved pleasurable, with a hint of smooth mayo finish. Whenever I am itching for something substantial, the creature of habit in me would order this.

On a heartier side, dad order the set lunch, which came with an entree, dessert and coffee/tea. Honestly, I didn’t feel up to the challenge of mushroom and parmesan cheese. Yeah, I chickened out at the thought of such a strong-smelling conoction. But Dad polished it off in a matter of minutes, so I gather it couldn’t be half-bad.

The dessert materialized in the form of a berry compote and mascarpone sable tart. Ah-HAH, this is my domain!

The chilled berry compote was berry delicious and delectably tangy, all thanks to the dominating fruity zest. The mascarpone tart consisted of fresh blueberries and mascarpone cheese, sandwiched between two thin sable-like biscuits. Though it was dad’s dessert, my sister and i circled around it like a couple of pesky vultures, defacing the dessert as it satisfied our sweet tooth (teeth).

Coffee Club has an encouraging menu, with a mélange of innovative favourites that would satisfy diners of varied tastes. Be it brunch, tunch or tea, there’s something for everyone at anytime of the day.

Coffee Club can be found at several locations around town but we visit the one at Ngee Ann City.
