Free cones at Ben & Jerry’s!

Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day is an annual celebration at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops internationally. Free scoops of ice-cream were given out, all day long, from 12pm to 7pm. What’s more, it not only one outlet, but nearly all the outlets in Singapore are participating! (Except those at Jurong BirdPark, Night Safari, Sentosa, Singapore zoo) The first ever Free Cone Day was held in 1979, a year after Ben & Jerry opened their shop in Vermont, USA. It is a day to appreciate customers, thanking them for their support!
Youth.SG thinks it is a good marketing strategy! Despite the long queue, it only took us 10 minutes to reach the end of the queue. What really impressed us was the way that the Ben & Jerry crew were trying to hype up the atmosphere. At 11.59 am, they started counting down and someone shouted “Let’s count together! 10, 9…” They also had mascots such as the cow with a big udder and a balloon-making man entertaining the crowds who were in the queue. This definitely heightened the mood of the people in the queue, and got most people excited about getting their free cone.
One commendable point to note: The crew was lively and well organised! All of them were wearing a “Free Cone Day” T shirt accompanied by caps! Clad in different colours, and with smiles planted on their faces, you wouldn’t have thought they were working.
Of course, the customers naturally smiled when they received their free cone! Youth.SG ambushed three girls who were happily eating their ice creams. Serene and her two friends were pleased to have their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Strawberry Cheesecake. They started queueing at 11.45am, 15 minutes before the count down. Looking at how they enjoyed their ice cream, Youth.SG thinks that it was worth the wait!

This year they didn’t collect donations for charity leh. Past few years they did. Want to donate also cannot. I think it’s a good idea to do something for charity at the same time.
