Don’t give up when it comes to sales!

I was at Takashimaya with my friends to commemorate the eve of Labour Day. We were at the A Shoes and Bags Affair sale when one of my friends got all excited pointing at a straw-knit tote bag a Chinese lady was holding onto.

“Nisha! Look at that Guess bag! Oh my god! I’ve wanted to buy it since last year!”

So, we headed to the Guess bag area to find out its availability. Sadly, it wasn’t and the last piece was the one we spotted before. My friend had a depressed face and went on about how “it was the only bag” that can pull off the I-am-not-meant-for-only-the-beach look.

Then, I said, “Let’s stalk her.”

With our ‘qualified’ experience of stalking (we have stalked quite a few times), we pulled a pretty good job in pretending to look at other products and trying to pass bad comments of the Guess bag to get the “China lady” to give it up.

Twenty minutes in and my friend continued to complain, “Oh my god! That bag doesn’t fit her at all. Still got so many bags! (The lady was carrying a few bags with her) I hope she finds a bag she likes more than the Guess one.”

I didn’t know how to react to that: whether she was being mean or nice to the lady (in a twisted sense of wanting her to find “a better bag than the Guess one”).

But, we were persistent (or rather I was because my friend promised Azabu Sabo ice-cream if she gets the bag. Oh my god, that just made me look so bad.) Even when some of the lights were dimmed, we were still there. We wanted to wait till she goes off.

You’ll never know, we thought then, she might just don’t want the bag.

That was exactly what happened! One minute we saw her with the bag and the next we found her walking away without any purchase (she must have realised that her credit card has reached its limit). My friend nearly ran to get the bag. Like a contented child with her favourite doll, she went to the cashier and bought it.

And we had our deserving Hokkaido ice-cream.

The point here is will you go to such an extent for a bag you like? Imagine the disappointment my friend might get after the long wait if the lady had bought the bag. But, she didn’t give up. Even though it is such a trivial matter, her endurance should be admired. I did. And the bag had a 50% off. She must be very contented.
