How /not/ to say ‘’Agnès b'’
Jorge used to go crazy whenever someone pronounced “Agnès b.” as “ack ness bee” in front of him. He claims it’s really “un nya bay”.
Well, Stanley and I were at Raffles City Shopping Centre last Friday for a vacation the unveiling of two new Peugeot 107 cars with Agnès b. designs…
… and we learnt that “Agnès b.” is really “un nyas bay”. What were you saying again, Jorge? 
Back to the cars, we were amused by how one of them looked like a boiled sweet with purple and white stripes—the stripes really reference Agnès b.’s signature striped tee. Of the polda-dotted red car, I heard a passerby say, “Measles!”
Testament to the whimsical energy of the brand, then. The petite cars aren’t going anywhere till Dec 27, so gawk if you’re curious!

agnes b. is approximately pronounced \’agnyez bay.\’ Ideally, you get your tongue and nose to twist the n and the g around one another, somewhat suppressing the g and going light on the z. But it helps to be French. For the rest of us, \’angyez bay\’ is close enough. \’Agnes\’ means lamb. Baa lamb. The store sells nice teeshirts, sufficiently overpriced that they should include a little language lesson with every purchase. Next: how to pronounce \’fout moi la paix!\’
