Judgement Day 3: Meet Angelique

Top 20
Meet the top top 20 bloggers! :)

As mentioned, we will be posting up the scores for the top 20 blog entries from our judges on a daily basis.  Today, two-time winner of the Best Teen Weblog Award, Angelique's scorings will be revealed.

Here're her comments on judging for the top 20:

  Angelique

"The top twenty entries weren't too disappointing, and on the whole I'd say that most put in a lot of effort into their submissions.

If I gave extremely low scores it is only because I am a bad person with anger management issues about many things that I can't remember."

Angelique also wrote descriptions for each of the four score ranges she arbitrarily choose to employ:

[…] May 10, 2007 @ 8:07 pm } · { youth.sg } FBG. Inside joke. OMG why 58/100?! None of the competition scored above 75.Apparently, Best Teen Weblog Award Blogger (-.-) decided to set up a marking scheme. I think she’s still in poly la (from the word ‘teen’, doesn’t it already say something?), the scheme is so teacher-teacher. GL*W UP PRE*SE. I shall not link to her blog, because it’s very easy to find, and I dunno what makes her so “top blogger”… I can only give this face… […]

  7. iammyy Says:

and yea, mrotaku is right, all the scores gets lower and lower.hahahhaa

  8. jsquares Says:

… seriously, since one can criticise people who “try too hard”, i dont see why the problem of textbook-like submissions isn’t entertained as well.

ok dont start another whatever controversy because i commented this.

  9. marilyn Says:

haha. goodness. sooooo strict. HAHA. don’t worry peeps!! :D

  10. jsquares Says:

and you know what? from the previous rounds, i certainly dont observe the highest scorers subsequently possessed by a sudden love obsession. contain your excitement, mrotaku, it doesnt look too mature on you :)

  11. Maxy Oliveros Says:

I don’t know much about humour (sigh) and creativity, which I think Ros will be looking primarily for, so I have no comments there I guess. Would be surprised to see the usual suspects at the top though. When I read about the judges, I thought Charles was placed on the panel to judge on “singaporean-ess” - he didn’t seem qualified to judge on any other criteria. His blog is terrible and rather bland, and personally, he’s so average that it best places him to judge on how much an entry appeals to the average singaporean. I thought Alan would be judging primarily on visuals because I can’t see how he’s qualified to judge on anything else. Angelique was a good judge, and I think she was genuinely a good pick. She was definitely a lot more transparent than the other two judges, but it wouldn’t have been hard to indicate where everyone was at (from her perspective).

The only thing I think that anyone can judge is on relevance to the topic of “social issues” - so it’ll be great to read Alvin’s thoughts on that. I tried to rank the entries, and I realised that it was a pretty hard task. It is hard. I’d like to think that they broadly fall into two groups (top 10 - bottom 10)… but who knows? It’s difficult to put an entry like gutter cat’s on the top, because he rambles a lot before getting to the REALLY good bits, or uncle sha’s… I’m still not convinced it wasn’t an entry where I had someone preaching at me in a rather patronising manner. soupcanfairy’s entry on how anyone can be a hero… it IS a social issue, but it’s such a removed issue that I’m not sure how to place it. There are more entries that directly address society… Then there’s thegreatsze’s piece on the mediocrity of women… it’s definitely a social issue, but how focused is it? It’s hard to tackle such a big issue without rambling on and ultimately, I felt the topic actually worked against his writing abilities. He’s a good writer, but he lacks the depth required to deal fairly with the issue - and hence, it loses relevance. Still, I think he deserves to be up here on relevance (and WAAY DOWN BELOW on graphics).

Anyway, here’s my attempt at ranking on relevance…

    1. B10 - jiayi. (I really enjoyed your piece - in terms of relevance)
    2. B8 - yuting
    3. B19 - thegreatsze
    4. B13 - emelia
    5. B3 - ice angel
    6. B16 - xing ping
    7. B20 - mrotaku
    8. B9 - iammyy
    9. B12 - nathalie
    10. B17 - issac lim

    11. B5 - soupcanfairy
    12. B15 - voxy
    13. B6 - alitwist
    14. B7 - juni
    15. B4 - gutter cat
    16. B11 - uncle sha
    17. B14 - joyce
    18. B1 (sorry braix)
    19. B18 - ben
    20. B2 - theodorerex

Would love to read comments! Will see how I eventually do compared to Alvin’s…

  12. iammyy Says:

haha.thanks for letting me be at least top10 ! i’ll put in more effort next time instead of a last minute post.LOL.
but anyways,i think this whole blog thing really made me realised there are alot of good bloggers out there instead of the usual mr brown/xiaxue etc. Different styles of writing and i think we should learn to appreciate everyone’s effort, right ? =)

  13. Namelessfreak Says:

Zzz to Maxy Oliveros, you think that you’re a great judge meh? Fancy placing my friend in the bottom 10. Its just a blogging competition for everyone to have fun blogging about stuffs like social issues, so why bother pouring cold water over it? Stop judging people, you dont even know him in real life for God’s sake.

Blogging is just a way of expressing yourself, different people have different ways of blogging so just keep your comments to yourself la -.-

  14. ben Says:

OYE. WHY AM I NO. 19?! can you at least put me in a nicer number? like 20? i don’t like 19! like not here nor there.. :(

  15. alvin Says:

Maxy Oliveros: Interesting and insightful post! :)

It’s quite difficult to judge for blogging actually… cause of the diversity of content that can come in. Blogging is meant to be spontaneous and freeflowing… plus one can add all kind of graphics, videos, and other multi-media content - this further adds to the complexity.

At the end of day, a good blog is still defined by the readers who patronise the blog for its content.

  16. juni Says:

Maxy: Namelessfreak’s right, stop pouring cold water on some of us bloggers! Why didn’t you join then, if you thought you knew what would encompass a good entry?

Thus said, i can’t wait for the last 2 judges’ scores! Faster leh!

  17. jyi Says:

    Hey Maxy Oliveros,
    Thanks ahh.
    You rock,please :D

    Hooooh.
